Valmiki in Tapas

Valmiki in Tapas

18 x 24

Oil on Masonite

This is a contemporary take on a Sloka (poem) describing the Sage Valmiki, the author of Ramayana.

In deep meditation, he repeated the syllables ma, ra over and over until the 24,000 poems that make Ramayana, flowed from him like the songs of a cuckoo bird.

Covered in Valmeekam or ant hill, he remained in deep meditation or Tapas.
